CBF Podcast conversation w/ Jonathan Merritt on new book, Learning to Speak God from Scratch

By Andy Hale

SpeakGodPeople are generally content with using the language with which they are familiar and comfortable. This is especially true when it comes to talking about God.

But what if our language about God is all wrong?

In fact, what if we have talked about God and God-stuff so much that the words have lost their flavor and meaning? In turn, what if a reexamination of the words we use to talk about God lead us to rethink our spiritual journey?

We sat down with author Jonathan Merritt about his new book, Learning to Speak God from Scratch: Why Sacred Words Are Vanishing—and How We Can Revive Them.

Merritt’s book is an invitation to dig deeper into the etymology of biblical words and re-imagine a new understanding of them.
