I was out to lunch with my family on Friday. The restaurant had the local news station covering the Democratic National Convention’s final day. My eye caught a visibly uncomfortable woman shaking her head and scoffing as she stared at the TV while Kamala Harris spoke.
Have things gotten so intense that our opposing political candidates draw such a noticeable physical response? Things are getting intense, especially as the election cycle ramps up.
“We are not claiming that America is on the imminent verge of descending into systemic political violence. The route running from widespread relational separation to increased political violence can take decades to traverse. But momentum builds with every passing year,” argued Curtis Chang on the CBF Podcast Conversation.
Chang, the executive director of Redeeming Babel, a consulting professor at Duke Divinity School, and a Senior Fellow at Fuller Theological Seminary, sat down with us to discuss his new book, The After Party: Toward Better Christian Politics.
