CBF Podcast: Eugene Cho, Embracing the Whole Gospel

By Andy Hale

This week’s CBF Podcast Conversation features the Rev. Eugene Cho, president and CEO of Bread for the World, a leading voice in the fight against hunger. Eugene brings a wealth of wisdom from his time as the founding pastor of Quest Church in Seattle, an urban, multi-cultural, and multi-generational congregation, as well as through his book, Thou Shalt Not Be a Jerk: A Christian’s Guide to Engaging Politics. In part one of our conversation, Eugene shares insights on Bread for the World’s recent legislative victories, which have secured billions in humanitarian aid for Ukraine, Ethiopia, and beyond. His reflections on navigating the complex interplay between faith, justice, and global crises offer a timely challenge for the church to embrace nonpartisan political engagement for the sake of the hungry and vulnerable.

In part two, Eugene inspires church leaders to “re-imagine what flourishing could look like” in ministry. He urges us to center our lives on Christ, embrace the whole Gospel, and “see people and invest in relationships.” He challenges a hyper-individualistic approach to faith, reminding us that God’s love encompasses the whole world, including refugees, the hungry, and the marginalized. Finally, he calls us to reclaim the sacredness of the Lord’s table, emphasizing its transformative power to unite and remind us of Christ’s sacrifice. As Eugene so poignantly shares, “Justice matters to God. Reconciliation matters to God. The poor and the hungry matter to God.” Don’t miss this conversation that invites us to lean deeper into our faith and boldly live out the Gospel in today’s world. Stay connected with Eugene’s impactful work at bread.org.
