This post comes to us from Ray Higgins, coordinator of CBF of Arkansas.

Every year since the early 1980s, Second Baptist Church Little Rock has given an annual Brooks Hays Christian Citizenship Award in memory of Congressman Brooks Hays who was a long-time member and famous Men’s Bible Class teacher for 30 years.

The award has gone to courageous Baptist leaders, senators and congressmen, business leaders, judges, pastors and ministers, and community leaders, including CBF of Arkansas’ founder and first coordinator, Dr. Tom Logue.

This year, the award is being given to CBF field personnel Ben and Leonora Newell for their transformational leadership, ministry and service in the Arkansas Delta on behalf of CBF’s Together for Hope Rural Poverty Initiative.

This is a powerful recognition of the Newells’ servant and sacrificial ministry, and a wonderful, Spirit-led decision by Dr. Matt Cook, Second’s Pastor, and the church’s Christian Life Committee.

The recognition will take place this Sunday, December 6, at 10:30 a.m. during the worship service.Congratulations to Ben and Leonora and the network of local leaders in Helena-West Helena with whom they work! And thanks to all who contribute to the CBF Offering for Global Missions which allows the Newells to live and work in this community.
