Mission Entry Points with CBF

Words create.  That’s one of the first lessons we learn about God in the book of Genesis.  God speaks, and exciting things take place.  Words also help put shape to our hopes as individuals and congregations.

Over the past year, I have asked individuals across Virginia one specific question: what value does CBF offer you and your church? The answers are varied, but always seem to include one word: mission.  Of course, mission means different things to different people.  For some, it means field personnel serving overseas.  For others, it means hands-on opportunities within their local community.  Thus, we as CBF attempt to offer a variety of ‘entry points’ for individuals and churches to engage in God’s mission.

Below is a list of current ‘mission entry points’ with CBF, and some other entry points we might consider:

  • Missions Education (Mission stories, articles, and activities for preschoolers through adults.  Click here to learn more.)
  • Mission Moms & Dads (Idea: Parents who are serious about offering their children opportunities to learn to live a missional lifestyle.)
  • Mission Minute (Idea: A short, weekly reading from CBF field personnel to include during worship.)
  • Mighty Mission! (Idea: Children who are excited about missions who gather to pray and engage in activities to change the world.)
  • Mission Madness (Each spring youth (grades 6-12) from across the United States gather for a hands-on mission weekends.  Click here to learn more.)
  • Mission Mixer (Idea:  Service weekends for college fraternities and sororities to engage with CBF churches in local service opportunities.)
  • Mission Mobile (Idea:  Online missions updates from CBF to mobile devices to encourage immediate engagement in prayer and missions activities online and IRL (“in real life”).
  • Mission Marquee (Idea: Gatherings in cinemas/home cinemas to view current films followed by discussion online/IRL regarding the inspiration for missions.)
  • Mission Message (Idea:  Modeled on Ted talks, field personnel provide short talks/interviews online describing recent developments in their mission.)
  • Mission Market (Idea: An online marketplace for missions ideas and fair-trade items for purchase via microfinance.)

We want to hear your mission ideas.  Please add your words to this list.

Thanks!
