‘There will be much work ahead’

An update from Scott Hunter, one of CBF’s former field personnel in Southeast Asia, who has agreed to a three-month assignment in Haiti to provide logistical assistance and be a point of contact in the country for response teams coming from the U.S.

Hello all,

I just got back from Port-au-Prince and am glad to report that things in were returning to some sort of new normality, meaning there was no panic  for food, water was available and there was no need for military intervention for distribution.

Many buildings are in ruins and most of those left at the south end of the city will never house people or conduct business again.  The bodies are gone, and I think that most of the people needing medical attention have received it.  There will be much work ahead, and I think that it will probably take 10 years to rebuild.

I am sure that most of the south end of town and most of the hillside will have to be flattened and the building rebuilt from scratch.  The military was doing a great job of getting supplies where they needed to be and distributed.  I think that the news tends to focus on the worst. We heard planes landing all night long and helicopters were flying from before dawn.

Now, we will sit back and figure out what the best next move.

Thanks for the prayers.
Your Brother Scott

  1. Hello to Scott Hunter!!
How wonderful that you can be involved in relief work in Haiti. Your skills are so appropriate for the needs there. I hope to get involved in the near future to use my nursing skills.
    You are in my prayers!
    Blessings!
