Amy Grizzle, Fran Patterson honored

Fran Patterson, left, and Amy Grizzle, right, with CBF's Bo Prosser were honored at the ChurchWorks Conference.

Two leadership awards were presented at the ChurchWorks Conference this week in Nashville.

Amy Grizzle, minister to adults at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, was presented with the Young Baptist Leadership Award. Steve Wells, pastors of South Main, provided this endorsement:

“I am pleased and honored to endorse Amy Grizzle for the Young Baptist Award. Amy is a pace-setter whose leadership among both her peers and the wider Baptist family is beyond question. From her rigorous academic preparation to her consistent leadership, both in the local church and on the broader Baptist stage, Amy is making a powerful difference in and for the Kingdom of God. Amy’s ministry is transforming lives and systems here in Houston. Her vision for Current has given great shape to a generation of young ministers. Her capacity for caring combined with her ability to identify and disarm coming trouble is a gift to all with whom she works. It is my sincere hope that this award is both a strong encouragement to Amy and a challenge to others to emulate her work ethic and Gospel heart. I am honored to call her my colleague.”

Grace and peace,
Steve Wells

Fran Patterson, minister to youth at Broadway Baptist Church in Forth Worth, Texas, was honored with the Jack Naish Distinguished Christian Educator Award.

I would be thrilled for Fran Patterson to receive the Naish Award.  When my wife and I were touring the Broadway Baptist Church facilities last spring and were deep into the business of considering whether or not I would come as pastor, we met Fran in a hallway in the youth area.  After a short conversation, we knew that we would love for our 13 year old son to have her as his youth minister in particular, and we were greatly encouraged about Broadway in general.

Fran has truly dedicated her life to the formation of these students.  She spends huge amounts of time with them, plans activities for them, teaches them and lines up others to teach them, and serves as a wonderful role model for them.  She has always been well loved at our church, but she is loved and respected even more after the way she responded to the situation we faced this summer when [a university] rescinded their invitation to host our youth choir for their mission trip four days before they were to leave.  Fran took charge of the situation and had an entirely new trip planned by the end of the week.  And she handled it all in a mature and Christ-like way, setting a wonderful example for our students (and adults).

Expanding the circle of her influence, Fran spends a great deal of time as a leader in the Southwest Baptist Youth Camping Association.  She leads in planning both youth and children’s camps and retreats for this network of churches.  As the new pastor at Broadway, I am so grateful to have Fran on staff and already consider her a great friend.  I would love to see her receive this award!  In fact, she is so modest that I would literally love to see her receive it, because she would most certainly be the most surprised person in the room. ”
