We’ve been listening to the Audio Bible series during our lunch hour here at the CBF offices. Each day I’ve been struck by a word that seems to be woven through that day’s reading.
Today it was “authority”! Jesus was questioned about His authority and never answered the question. He did, however, live out the answers!
Hearing this scenario worked out has stirred my emotions. So to from many others.
Jack Colwell of the First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon, GA shares these words about today’s reading.
The passion narrative in Luke 20-24 is so familiar that when reading it I have difficulty concentrating. Listening to the masterful “Faith Comes by Hearing” audio files gripped my attention again. In Junior College I gained a new appreciation for reading aloud and hearing. At Young Harris I was the reader for a blind student. Reading aloud and listening helped me become a better student. For long hours I read lessons, and sometimes we listened together to “Talking Books.” For English Literature we heard Vanity Fair on bulky phonograph records.
Modern technology has enhanced my present endeavors in reading scripture.
My colleage, Rick Bennett, shared today, “Jesus ‘opened their minds’ when teaching the disciples (Luke 24:45) after His resurrection. What a challenging thought!”
Challenging indeed! Jesus continues to “open our minds” and to stir us. We may have read these words many times; but, as we hear them, really HEAR them, we are stirred to our toes!
