Effortlessly Making Music!

Last week I saw James Taylor and Carol King in concert. They were amazing; not flashy; not splashy but amazing. Their voices were strong and vibrant; their expressions showed they were present with us in the moment. They were themselves; they were extraordinary in their production.  Yet, they were simply effortless in their songs and stage banter.

Oh, their efforts were evident…concerts like that don’t happen without a ton of collaboration. But, once they took the stage, they were at home, in their element, and effortless in their presentation. I felt that they transformed the arena into my den. They seemed to be effortlessly making music.

Seems to me that worship should be more like that. Those of us who lead in worship should appear effortless, at home, and enjoying the moment. The power of the experience may be in the prayer and preparation that precedes it!

The presentation could be effortless, coming from our interaction with the Divine. No flash, no splash; just a relaxed, confident encounter with God, effortlessly making music!
