The partnership between Kentucky Baptist Fellowship and the Protestant Church in Morocco (EEAM) continues this fall as KBF will host 12 EEAM students whose voices will combine with 18 voices from Kentucky to form the 2010 Voices United Choir. The choir will present nine concerts at KBF churches throughout the Commonwealth from September 1-12. The concerts are free and open to the general public (a schedule can be found below).
The combined choir will sing African songs (sung in French) as well as teach American and African worship styles & liturgy. Kathy Collier, Minister of Music and Worship at Highland Baptist Church in Louisville, will conduct the group. Kathy traveled alongside 16 others from Kentucky in 2009 to Morocco for the first Voices United experience and has helped to plan this exchange experience for Kentucky.
The EEAM choir members are all university students at various stages in their education (from undergraduate to doctoral work). They originally come from the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa), Gabon, the Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Madagascar. They represent our congregations in Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Marrakesh, Tangier, Oujda, Agadir, and Kenitra. They come from a wide variety of denominations in their home countries. They are phenomenal musicians and great dancers. And most of all, they are brothers and sisters in Christ who are wonderful people with a depth of spirit and joyfulness that is contagious. The Kentucky choir members are diverse professionals who share a love for music. They represent our KBF congregations in Danville, (Lexington Avenue), Frankfort (Immanuel), Louisville (Broadway, Buechel Park, Highland), and Owensboro (Third Baptist).
The choir will travel together throughout Kentucky by church buses/vans and will stay in homes provided by each host church. For more information please contact Joshua Speight at josh@kybf.org or at 502-426-1931.
