The new book by Fred Werhan entitled “Some Thngs I Said While Trying to Preach the Gospel” (Daily Thoughts for Thoughtful Christians) provides some thought-provoking reflections for daily devotion and discipline. Additionally, you’ll find some thoughts for use in your own efforts for preaching and teaching. You’ll also find some refreshing takes on what it means to be a Christian and a church.
Dr. Werhan states that he only had two sermons, one on Love as what it means to be a Christian, and the other on Freedom as what it means to be a Baptist, and that all his sermons were variations on these two themes. His book expounds on the themes.
Larry Hovis says of the book, “Fred applied these Gospel filters (love and freedom) to basic questions of life and faith and church, as well as issues that are considered to be more controversial but which this pastor and church explored together in healthy, mature ways.”
James Dunn says, “Here in Fred’s book is the ultimate timely relevance in preaching to a real church full of actual human beings. It reveals how the preacher grew, progressed, and faced honestly the problems of a vital, healthy church. If you give a hoot about church life you ought to read this book.”
