The following post is from CBF church starters Carrie and Nathan Deal who are starting a church in the Edgewood neighborhood
of Atlanta, GA.
In this special season of gratitude we wanted to thank you for all that you have allowed God to do through your gifts and prayers. Though we don’t understand it all, we are convinced that the prayers of God’s people open up possibilities for God’s Good Kingdom to transform this world. Nothing that we hope to do or accomplish is possible without the intervention of God and therefore without prayer. You may not always see it, but we wanted you to know that whenever you give or serve, you may be the miracle that someone has been praying for.
Around this time last year, we had less than twenty people coming to church on Sunday, had less than four weeks of operating money left, and were desperately praying that God would at least allow us to make it to Christmas. A year later, despite our occasional lack of faith, we are still here. Our influence in the community has grown, dozens of lives have been significantly changed, Edgewood Church has a permanent home in the neighborhood, and about eighty people flow in and out of Edgewood Church and about forty of them will be there on an average Sunday.
God has done so many amazing things in this past year and we are excited to see what God will do in the months and years ahead. To read more about what God has done through Edgewood Church recently check out OUR HISTORY PAGE.
Thanksgiving Potluck
This past Sunday, Edgewood Church had its second annual Thanksgiving potluck lunch. This was such a special time for all involved. For some this was there Thanksgiving meal with the closest thing they have to family. For some it was a powerful reminder of all that God had done in their lives and through “their” church since the last Thanksgiving Potluck. All around though, it was beautiful. It was beautiful to hear people share what they were thankful to God for – some ending in laughter, some in held-back tears. It was beautiful to see former addicts, former prostitutes, and homeless people sharing life and food with young business people, PHD students, and graduate students as if it were the most natural thing in the world. It was beautiful. It was more than beautiful. It was one of those precious moments when the veil between this world and that distant land becomes very, very thin. May God’s Kingdom Come!
Hurrah, that’s what I was exploring for, what a stuff! existing
