The following post is from LaCount Anderson, one of CBF’s field personnel serving in North Carolina.
Monday, as we were giving out food bags, I spotted a young man standing in line. I noticed him because he looked different from the others. He looked to be in his mid-twenties — a nice looking young man, with a rather large tattoo on his neck.
As I watched him move through the line, I noticed a humble manner about him as he gave us his information. He was there to pick up three food bags for his family. As I gave him the heavy food bags, I engaged him in a brief conversation and asked if he had a way of getting them home. He said “no” and that he had walked to the Mission for help. He refused my offer of a ride and said “it was a couple of blocks away.”
Then he asked, “can I help you as a volunteer?” I said “yes” and asked if he would like to help give out food the next two days. He agreed, and the next day I noticed him standing in the position where I had stood on Monday. He was giving out food to his neighbors.
