The halls of Broadway Baptist Church were turned into an art gallery Wednesday night as the CBF partner church hosted the works of Chinese Christian artist He Qi.
Before Wednesday’s “Evening of Music and Celebration” honoring Daniel and Earlene Vestal, He Qi presented his painting “Baptism of Jesus” to CBF in honor of the Vestals. The painting will hang in the CBF offices in Atlanta.
When entering the art exhibit, Fellowship Baptists could experience stories of faith through the paintings. He Qi’s works explore the emotion and symbolism of familiar bible stories in a new context. He blends together Chinese folk customs and traditional Chinese painting techniques with the western art of the Middle and Modern Ages.
He Qi received his Ph.D. in religious art from the Hamburg Art Institute and has been committed to the artistic creation of modern Chinese Christian Art since 1983.
There is still time to visit the exhibit at Broadway Baptist Church. It will be open 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 21 and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 22. There were a number of posters available for $10 and a limited number of artist’s proofs available for the reduced prices of $500 and $250. Prices were determined by the size of the proofs.
Several of He Qi’s prints were also available at the CBF Silent Auction at the Assembly.
