Three young preachers brought hope and excitement to General Assembly.
Being a young Seminarian student it is a comforting and exhilarating experience to watch young, gifted preachers through the Academy of Young Preachers.
Scott Claybrook, Molly Shoulta and Luke Moody each delivered a sermon that was full of unique personalities and theologies.
Their sermons each with their own personalities connected together with a simple, yet earth shattering theme: where there is pain and hardship, there is God, there is mercy.
In a society where war, famine, financial hardships and genocide flash across our T.V. screens, iPhones, iPads and every other device, it is hard to find where God is, it is tough to find that little sliver of hope and peace.
Scott, Molly and Luke each did that. They found where our faith can calm us in our anxious lives, where God’s mercy can not be dismissed and where God’s love is undeniable.
Each of their stories were delivered with such energy and passion that I forgot I was attending General Assembly with my 3,000 closest Baptist friends.
I found myself captivated by the words that not only rang true but convicted me to go and do, go and be Christ love to my community. Their words made be proud to be a young Baptist, it made me proud that my generation is not sitting by and waiting, we are doing and being Christ love.
Their stories of peace, love and mercy filled the room with hope and excitement, not solely because of their well crafted words, but because as they spoke they spoke with conviction and passion.
It was undeniable that that little sliver of love, peace and mercy was shining brighter with each passing second.
The Kingdom is surely beckoning us closer and closer to the sliver of hope. The Kingdom is calling us to the future where God’s peace, mercy and love shine brighter than the devastation and heartache we see far too often.
