Below is an update from Tommy Deal, CBF U.S. Disaster Response Coordinator.
Roofers needed in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Earlier this week, I received a request for roofers in Hattiesburg, Miss., from Jim Kirkendall, Disaster Response Coordinator for CBF of Mississippi. Back in February, a devastating tornado ripped through the neighborhood adjacent to University Baptist Church. Seven months later, some homes are just now receiving assistance with their roof repairs.
Please contact Jim if you are able to help and arrangements will be made for you. Contact Jim at email@example.com or (228) 229-3331.
Flooding in Austin, Texas
On October 31, 2013, approximately 1500 homes were flooded in Austin Texas, as torrential rains caused a river to breach its banks and create a new river through subdivisions. The home of our own Executive Coordinator Suzii Paynter and her husband, Roger, was flooded.
Texas Baptist Men — the first-response disaster relief arm of the Baptist General Convention of Texas — has been involved in the disaster response efforts in Austin. Texas Baptist Men has lent a helping hand to many in the area, cleaning out and removing saturated sheet rock, insulation, etc. First Baptist Church of Austin has also been deeply involved in the relief efforts too.
Rick McClatchy, CBF field coordinator for Texas, is working to assess the needs of those affected and identify ways that CBF can be of assistance. Texas Baptist Disaster Response has invited CBF Disaster Response to participate once the flood waters dry up and the recovery process begins. We expect there to be a need for sheet rock work, painting, flooring, etc. in the weeks to come. When there is an official request for assistance, CBF Disaster Response will pass that information along.
Donations to assist in Disaster Response can be made online here (or click the image below) or by mailing a check payable to “CBF” with Acct. 17000 in the memo line to:
