WACO, Texas (March 19, 2014) – The 2014 Baptist General Convention of Texas’ Women in Ministry Conference will be held on Monday, March 24, in George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University, with the theme “Embracing Leadership.”

Women in Ministry conferences provide encouragement, ministry equipping, networking opportunities and support in exploring women’s leadership roles in a variety of contexts. Women in Ministry conferences are for women, men, students, ministry professionals and lay persons.

Suzii Paynter will serve as this year’s conference leader. She has served as the executive coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship since 2013, and she was previously the director of the Advocacy Care Center and Christian Life Commission for Texas Baptists. Over the past decade, Paynter has gained a national reputation for her advocacy on important ethical issues such as religious liberty, hunger and poverty, environmental justice, human trafficking and immigration reform. She also received an honorary doctorate from Dallas Baptist University.

Following a general session with Paynter, participants will be able to choose from three discussions: “Preparing for Leadership,” “Living in Leadership” and “Exploring Leadership and Encouragement.” After a lunch break, they can choose from six speakers to listen to during the three breakout sessions.

A pre-conference workshop will be from 3 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday March 23, in Truett Seminary. The workshop, titled “Preparing for Leadership,” will be led by Emily Prevost, Ph.D., director of the department of leadership development and assistant professor of leadership at East Texas Baptist University.

Conference registration for the conference closes Thursday, March 20. The general registration fee is $20 and the student registration fee is $15. The fee for the pre-conference workshop, for students only, is $10.

The 2014 Women in Ministry conference is co-sponsored through contributions of Texas Baptist churches made to the Cooperative Program of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and by Truett Seminary.
