“I am so weary”—A prayer for our nation

This is a prayer offered in response to the shooting Oregon’s Umpqua Community College, written by Bo Prosser, CBF’s Coordinator of Strategic Partnerships.

Oh Lord,
I am so weary…

They say, “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people.”
I am so weary…

They say, “This is a free country; I have a right to have guns.”
I am so weary…

They say, “If guns are illegal; only criminals will have guns.”
I am so weary…

How long, o Lord, will we continue to let “them” have “their” say?
How long, o Lord, will we continue to see brutal acts of senseless violence?
How long, o Lord, will we continue to let “killing machines” be accessed by “them”?
How long, o Lord?

I am so weary…of hearing excuses from “them”…
I am so weary…of hearing the cries of the families…
I am so weary…

Help us, Lord, please help us, before “they” kill again!
We are so weary…

Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Amen.

    • When you state “wrong prayer sir” Why not offer your own? Your comment tells a person you have a better way or prayer, offer it. The prayer offer by Bo Prosser, certainly seems to be a heart felt one. Who am I to judge his prayer, evidently you do.

  1. Oh Lord, I am so weary.
How long will we continue to point fingers at “they” and “them”?
How long will it take us to realize this is not a “they” and “them” issue but an “us” and “we” and “me” issue?
How long until we stop pointing and screaming and blaming?
How long until we recognize that we are part of the problem every time we seek anger and hatred over love and justice?
How long until we seek to understand rather than to be understood?
How long until we find better ways to solve problems?
How long until we recognize the hurting and begin healing in Jesus’ name?
Oh Lord, I am so weary.
And then you show up….”Come unto me all who are weary and I will give you rest.”

      • My prayer is not for government action , it’s about my spirit’s reaction to the lack of spiritual relationships that are more polarizing than unifying. It’s a prayer for the families in Chicago, Oregon, Chaleston. Thanks for the “idiot” tag to illustrate the point.

  2. Bo you are an idiot. Governments establish gun free zones which invites the mentally ill to come on in and murder people. If not a gun, a knife etc. let the CWP holders Carey on campuses and this will not happen. 40 people were murdered in Chicago city limits last weekend which has among the toughest gun laws in the country…didn’t help there!
