CBF Advocacy Roundup: April 30 – May 4

A weekly roundup of important developments in issues of concern for CBF supporters, and opportunities for action from CBF partners and friends.

Bread for the World, a longtime CBF Partner, is encouraging Congress to protect vital assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as well as international food aid programs. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to protect these life sustaining programs. Read more about the Farm Bill here.

Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia have filed a lawsuit to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. While this coalition of states is suing the Trump administration, the president represents more of an ally than an adversary on immigration policy.

On March 29th, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it will detain pregnant women as standard practice – a marked departure from ICE’s former policy to presumptively release pregnant women from detention. Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster, calls for the end of this implementation measure. Sign this letter urging ICE to end this harmful practice.
