CBF Podcast: A Conversation with Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasmun

CBF Podcast - Rectangle

By Andy Hale

The time has never been better for those seeking spirituality. This is a multi-billion-dollar industry with books, apps, videos, retreat centers, gurus, fitness classes and group therapy sessions. In 2018, religious books generated 593.7 million U.S. dollars in sales revenue.

But what if more is not better? In fact, what if such a multiplicity of theological and philosophical discourse has moved us further and further away from its essential purpose?

“We need to write a manifesto about returning to the fundamental human questions of truth, goodness, and life,” said Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasmun. “Theology has the intellectual tools needed to rescue us from this present malaise, and betrays its purpose when it does not provide compelling alternative vision.”

The co-authors of For the Life of the World: Theology That Makes a Difference sat down for a conversation about why now is the time to attempt to shift academic theology.

Miroslav Volf is the Founder and Director of Yale Center for Faith and Culture, as well as a professor of theology at Yale University Divinity School.

Matthew Croasmun is the Associate Research Scholar and Director of the Life Worth Living Program at the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, as well as a lecturer of Divinity and Humanities at Yale University.
