CBF Podcast: Lora Jones and a Conversation About Grief

By Andy Hale

The great Henri Nouwen, in his work Out of Solitude, wrote:

The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness that is a friend who cares.

Grief is an inexplicable gambit of uncertainty. In one moment, there is laughter and joy as you remember a humorous moment with your deceased loved one, and then in the turn of a second, the laughter is quelled by tears of sorrow.

Bouts of the deep emotional sense of void, guilt, joy, gratitude, fear, hopelessness and love are all companions through anguish.

The journey through the unpredictable cycles of grief is quite possibly one of the most difficult challenges of human existence.

“Sometimes I’m overcome by sorrow. Sometimes I’m restless. Sometimes I’m afraid. Sometimes I’m at peace,” said Lora Jones on the CBF Podcast.

Lora is the author of Songs of a Wounded Heart: Regaining Hope and Trust After Personal Tragedy, a book about her journey through the unimaginable death of her husband and two children.
