In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and other national challenges, free and fair elections are more important in this season than ever before. Now is the time for faith leaders such as yourself to advocate for and protect free and fair elections. These resources and statements come from a variety of perspectives. While we all have personal convictions, we pass these along as some of the best nonpartisan efforts we have found. CBF Advocacy has been following such opportunities closely and as the election season ends, we want to make you aware of some of the best of what we have seen.
Last week, CBF Advocacy highlighted a bipartisan, multi-denominational group of faith and community leaders coming together to make a joint statement about free and fair elections which received national media coverage from the Associated Press. You can view the statement by clicking here.
We also offered an opportunity from Turnout Sunday, which is calling on clergy to be volunteer chaplains to vulnerable voters at polling sites on Election Day. Find out more about becoming a volunteer polling chaplain by clicking here. You can find out more about Turnout Sunday at the above link or by clicking here.
Prior to Election Day, we also want to make you aware of a few other opportunities and resources. Faithful Democracy is a multi-faith community of congregations and organizations who share the moral imperative of repairing our democracy. Their Voters Covenant is a statement that seeks to protect elections. Find out more about the Voters Covenant and how your church or organization can sign by clicking here.
Faith in Action has offered a 2020 Voting Toolkit. The toolkit is designed to ensure that with faith, relationship and the right technology, your congregants can exercise their right to vote. For more information and to find out how to share this toolkit with your congregation, click here.
The 2020 Call for Biblical Peacemaking from the Matthew 5:9 project offers four standards for fair and safe elections. To learn more and to sign, please click here.
Finally, we want to remind you of the resources available from the Golden Rule 2020 campaign, which you can find by clicking here. There, you can find resources on how to practice the Golden Rule in political discourse.
Join us to ensure free and fair elections across our country.
