A Most Unusual Year

By Nell Green

Well, here we are. Finally! We are approaching 2021.

For many of us, Christmas décor has been stored away; we are back to zoom meetings; and we have picked up some of our routine. Not that much has been routine in 2020. However, some things have remained constant, even during this pandemic.

Applause. Health care workers, first responders, transportation and distribution workers, food service providers—just to name a few—have received the applause and thanks they have always deserved. 2020 gave us opportunity to pay closer attention and to appreciate to a greater degree the sacrifice of these essential workers.

Quality time. It has not been easy to suddenly be thrust into working from home while homeschooling and caring for children. It has been heart breaking to be away from those we love even if they may not be far from us in distance. Yet we drastically slowed our pace as lock down demanded and enjoyed the relationships precious to us. We found new ways to express our love. We found new ways to reach out and touch though physically distanced. We have found new ways to worship together and experience spiritual growth and renewal.

Generosity. In hardship and difficulty we have witnessed our communities caring for their neighbors. When needs arose such as disaster or hunger relief, financial help and physical provision were amply given. In CBF life, there has been continual support for field personnel as they have sought new ways in the midst of pandemic to bear witness to Jesus Christ, seek transformational development, and cultivate beloved community. For that, we thank you!

The Offering for Global Missions assures the continual long-term presence of field personnel around the world. Yes, 2020 has been a most unusual year. You joined field personnel with your encouragement, generosity, and prayers making it possible for them to live and minister among the neglected and marginalized during pandemic and disaster. As we approach the end of this year, thank you for considering a gift to The Offering for Global Missions.
