We believe what we believe. There is no doubt that most of us have a very hard time changing our mind on most things.
When it comes to our understanding of the Bible, that might be the most difficult for thing for people to change their mind.
When we are confronted with ideas that so radically contradict our belief systems, our cognitive system triggers our hypothalamus to kick in the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. Subsequently, people being confronted with contradictory views on the Bible quit literally feel like they are under attack.
“Here is the first problem when we take up the topic of truth: not all ‘truth’ is true. Yes, there are some things that are so empirically true that there should be no argument -two plus two equals four, for example. And yet we now know all to clearly that there are people who intentionally lead us away from truth while pretending they’re telling us the truth,” said Mark Wingfield on the CBF Podcast Conversation.
Wingfield is the executive director and publisher of Baptist News Global. He has authored a new book, Honestly: Telling the Truth About the Bible and Ourselves.

Mark, wow! Why do you think if someone tells you that you are in sin, it automatically means hate? The opposite is true! If someone we know is living in sin, the loving thing to do is warn them. Judgement is coming, Mark. Read Matthew10:34-39, and realize that Jesus is returning, and this time, it won’t be in a manger! You say us conservative, Orthodox Christian’s who view a gay lifestyle as sin, or promoting our way, as the only way. Truth is, Mark it is Gods way! And I believe anyone who promotes and affirms a gay lifestyle are the “haters”, not those of us, who may try and warn them. Shame on anyone who affirms a gay lifestyle to anyone! That sir, is the “Hateful” thing to do, because you are clearing the road to hell for them…..and deep down, I think you know that. In the Love of Christ, Joni
