Below is a press release from CBF partner Fellowship Southwest. CBF leaders are signatories, including Ruben Ortiz, CBF’s Latino Field Ministries Coordinator, Elket Rodriguez, CBF field personnel serving at the U.S.-Mexico border and Anyra Cano, Director of Programs and Outreach at Fellowship Southwest.
Fort Worth, TX — Today, hundreds of Christian Evangelical Faith Leaders from around the state of Texas sent a letter to Governor Abbott calling on him to veto SB 4 and SB 11. The letter states:
“On behalf of thousands of Texas Christian Evangelical churches and institutions, we, the undersigned pastors, ministers and leaders across our great state, humbly request your reconsideration of SB 4 and SB 11. We believe that these bills, if enacted, will adversely affect our communities and churches and deviate from the principles of love and compassion towards the most vulnerable among us.
The passage of these bills will inadvertently foster fear and create unwarranted obstacles for the crucial care provided by our church immigrant and refugee ministries. This legislation appears to erect barriers that hinder churches in fulfilling their sacred mission of welcoming and caring for our neighbors.
We earnestly implore you to revisit these public policies and collaborate with us to develop alternative solutions that promote the safety and prosperity of our communities.
We beseech you to:
1. Veto SB 4 and SB 11.
2. Schedule a meeting with us to jointly craft just and equitable legislation, fostering the growth and well-being of our communities.
We are fully aware that the duties of your office, representing the interests of your constituents, are sacred and we hold you in our prayers. May the mercy of the Lord, who watches over and cares for us all, guide your leadership.
Unifying our voices, we affirm that advocating for Hispanics in Texas is firmly rooted in our interpretation of biblical values, which call us to extend hospitality to the stranger, care for immigrants and children and love our neighbors as ourselves. We believe these values align harmoniously with the foundational principles of our great nation.
Mr. Governor, as a collective assembly, we fervently pray for your guidance, so that you may serve our state and all who call it home. May you be led by the wisdom of the prophet Micah, who exhorted us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).“

Fort Worth, TX – Hoy, cientos de Líderes Cristianos Evangélicos de todo el estado de Texas enviaron una carta al gobernador Greg Abbott pidiéndole que vete las leyes SB 4 y SB 11. La carta dice:
“En nombre de miles de iglesias e instituciones cristianas evangélicas de Texas, nosotros, los abajo firmantes, pastores, ministros y líderes de todo nuestro gran estado, solicitamos humildemente su reconsideración de las leyes SB 4 y SB 11. Creemos que estos proyectos de ley, si se aprueban, afectarán negativamente a nuestras comunidades e iglesias y se desviarán de los principios de amor y compasión hacia los más vulnerables entre nosotros.
La aprobación de estos proyectos de ley fomentará inadvertidamente el miedo y creará obstáculos injustificados para la atención crucial que prestan los ministerios de inmigrantes y refugiados de nuestras iglesias. Esta legislación parece construir barreras que impiden a las iglesias cumplir con su sagrada misión de acoger y cuidar de nuestro prójimo.
Les imploramos encarecidamente que revisen estas políticas públicas y colaboren con nosotros para desarrollar soluciones alternativas que promuevan la seguridad y la prosperidad de nuestras comunidades.
Le suplicamos que:
1. Aplique un veto a las propuestas de ley SB 4 y SB 11.
2. Programe una reunión con nosotros para elaborar conjuntamente una legislación justa y equitativa, fomentando el crecimiento y el bienestar de nuestras comunidades.
Somos plenamente conscientes de que los deberes de su cargo, representando los intereses de sus constituyentes, son sagrados, y los tenemos en nuestras oraciones. Que la misericordia del Señor, que vela y cuida de todos nosotros, guíe su liderazgo.
Uniendo nuestras voces, afirmamos que abogar por los hispanos en Texas está firmemente arraigado en nuestra interpretación de los valores bíblicos, que nos llaman a extender la hospitalidad al extranjero, cuidar a los inmigrantes y a los niños, y amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos. Creemos que estos valores se alinean armoniosamente con los principios fundacionales de nuestra gran nación.
Señor gobernador, como asamblea colectiva, oramos fervientemente por su liderazgo, para que pueda servir a nuestro estado y a todos los que lo llaman su hogar. Que le guíe la sabiduría del profeta Miqueas, que nos exhortó a actuar con justicia, amar la misericordia y caminar humildemente con nuestro Dios” (Miqueas 6:8).”
