Research indicates that an individual’s perceived level of busyness may be heavily connected to their self-worth and how others view their status. Individuals who are busy by choice may feel needed, in demand, and important, thus elevating their self-worth.

Culturally, there has been a shift in status perception in that material objects and goods are no longer the only indicator of one’s social standing. Now, individuals who are busy at work, are overworked, and have a real lack of leisure time are perceived as having higher status.

But what kind of effect does all of this have on our souls?

“Though these unsettled states are cast as negative, that isn’t always the case. Sometimes restlessness is rooted in hopeful anticipation…Restlessness often describes longing, hope, and desire in ways that words and images cannot,” urged Casey Tygrett on the CBF Podcast Conversation.

Casey, the director of spiritual direction practice for Soul Care, sat down with us to discuss his new book, The Gift of Restlessness.
