Our world, how do I put this, is spinning towards doom. Ecologically, sea levels are rising, glaciers continue to melt, extreme weather conditions, Arctic and Antarctic warming and water temperatures rise are just the start. We haven’t even started on the aspects of nationhood, religions, economies, and institutions that are under serious concern.
All of it would make anyone grab a paper bag to breathe. But the time has passed for us to stick our heads in the sand, hoping this feeling of doom will pass.
“We feel this doom because we are awake, at least partially awake. The more we wake up, the worse we feel. It’s so tempting to fall back to sleep,” said Brian McLaren on the CBF Podcast Conversation.
“We need to face what we know. And we need to face what we don’t know. Only what is faced can be changed. That is why I say, and I hope you will join me, welcome to reality.”
McLaren, a frequent guest of the Podcast, sat down with us to discuss his new book, Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart. Brian is a prolific writer, speaker, and activist, with other works like Do I Stay Christian, Faith After Doubt, A New Kind of Christianity, and Everything Must Change.
