CBF Podcast: T.C. Moore, Following Jesus Into a New Kind of Family

By Andy Hale

Family carries a lot of visual weight. We were raised in a culture that glorified the conceptualization of the nuclear family, shunning divorce and single parents.

What happens when your concept of family does not fit the norm or is unhealthy? Can our faith communities fill that void or build something new for us?

“At thirteen, I was violently beaten into a gang by my closest friends at the time, from the neck down, for a minute that felt like an eternity. I’d seen others get jumped in, and I knew some who were seriously hurt in the process,” said T.C. Moore on the CBF Podcast Conversation.

“Often, when people learn this about me, they ask me what could possibly have possessed me to submit myself to such a dangerous and barbaric ritual. The answer is simple. Belonging. Brotherhood. Family.”

T.C., the pastor of Roots, a Moravian community, sat down with us to discuss his new book, Forged: Following Jesus Into a New Kind of Family. Moore is also a graffiti artist who has developed mentoring programs and planted churches across the country.
