Seasoned pastor joins CBF staff as Congregational Stewardship Officer

By Jeff Huett

DECATUR, Ga. –  A pastor with experience leading congregations in Virginia and North Carolina will become the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s new Congregational Stewardship Officer.

Bradley Boberg, currently the pastor of Ox Hill Baptist Church in Chantily, Va., will join CBF’s development team to provide consultation, resources and support to CBF partner churches to contribute to their financial well-being.

Boberg said he is excited to embark on this new journey and be a part of the “phenomenal CBF team and the larger work of CBF Global.”

“Faithful stewardship can be a difficult topic for churches to discuss in depth,” Boberg said. “I am looking forward to helping churches explore what faithful stewardship means in light of their specific resources. I hope to help churches innovate the use of their resources for the present and future.”

Shauw Chin Capps, CBF’s Chief Development Officer and president of the CBF Foundation, said she looks forward to working with Boberg to build on the good and holy work of supporting CBF partner congregations to be financially healthy so they can live into God’s mission and vision for the Church.

“Bradley is a gifted pastor, and he has served in several different church settings faithfully and skillfully for 20 years,” Capps said. “He understands the nuances of differing perspectives on budgets and financial health while seeking creative solutions, especially in times where churches are facing major shifts in their giving and attendance. He has led churches through Capital Campaigns, securing funding from non-traditional sources, and revamping budgets to meet the mission and vision of the church. He brings the depth of experience, the knowledge base, the empathy and the skill sets needed to be an effective congregational stewardship officer.

Paul Baxley, CBF’s executive coordinator, agreed that Boberg’s service to very different congregations will help him serve CBF congregations well.

“We are very grateful that Bradley Boberg will become CBF’s Congregational Stewardship Officer,” Baxley said. “His full-time responsibility will be helping congregations address significant financial strain by making the most faithful and beautiful use of all God has given them. I’m grateful for the gifts and commitments he brings to this important and growing part of our ministry.”

Sean Roberds, executive coordinator of Mid-Atlantic CBF and a member of CBF’s Outreach and Growth team, said he is thrilled that Boberg will join the CBF staff.

“Bradley has been a great help for Mid-Atlantic CBF by leading our mission’s team and accomplishing some of our long-held mission goals,” Roberds said. “He is an excellent pastor, and he certainly understands congregational stewardship and the unique challenges congregations face today.  Bradley is highly relatable and easy to get to know, which makes him an asset to work with a variety of congregations.”
