Thursday night changed the life of thousands as they were affected by Hurricane Helene heavy rains, strong winds or both. It wasn’t only the materials things that were lost. It was their homes, their sense of safety, their memories. Many lost most of all they have worked for years. It is at these times of distress where all people need to be witnessed of God’s love through Jesus. We are called to respond in concrete ways to alleviate their immediate needs as they also receive words of hope and are embraced by our prayers.
Tomorrow as we gather for worship, please ask for a special offering.
CBF Disaster Response (DR) has been in contact with our State and Regional Organizations’ DR coordinators. For the past 24-36 hours they have been actively engaged in assessing the damages, contacting our churches and ministers. The damage reports we are receiving from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina are heartbreaking:
“Western North Carolina is an island and will remain so for some time.”
“In Georgia, Augusta seems to be in the worst shape as far as CBF-affiliated churches are concerned. In South Georgia the county is essentially without power and will be for the next week, at least.”
“An urgent prayer request for partner congregation FBC Erwin, Tenn. The church building is fine. But its membership and community are being widely impacted by loss and uncertainty due to the unprecedented flooding. Members have lost homes and livelihood. The hospital in Erwin has been flooded. National Guard is conducting rescue missions.”
With your donations we will be able to support our DR coordinators as they lead the response on site.
