I LOVE Facebook!

Okay, I’ll admit it…I’m loving this Facebook thing!  There are friends and family here that I might not ever otherwise be able to visit with.  It’s fun and it’s ever growing!

Did you know that Facebook grants permission to its users to expand the realm of the current reality?  That means if you develop an “I like” list, you can add it to the Facebook Community.  Or Super Poke, again, empowered to add it.

Think what church could be if we empowered folks to use their passion to expand the ministries of the church!  Instead we try to control what folks do…or make them feel guilty about what they don’t do!

No wonder Facebook is thriving!!!  Thoughts???

  1. Well I’ve just gotten my toe in (mainly because of your post :-).

Interesting way of connecting and inter-connecting. I haven’t discovered many 71 year old males on board yet 🙂 My hometown, Greenville, NC, reports over 18,500 folks are on Facebook.

I created a Group called Better Health (an initiative of The Memorial Baptist Church). Those 18,500 folks haven’t stormed the Group yet. However, I haven’t specifically invited any of them yet either.

It appears that a large number of folks will inter-act in this fashion. Some of it will not be totally uplifting. So it is important that part of it will be.

  2. Saw your post Bo from a few weeks back and I agree about facebook- it is fun and a fascinating network, and I’m amazed at the way that facebook, Craig’slist, wikipedia etc. each demonstrate freedom- they don’t control members or try to dictate content, but instead exist as places where networks overlap networks, friends group based on common passions and content develops from a combined effort. This freedom, I think, resonates with those who have linked into CBF and we could learn a lot from studying the decentralized nature of the net.

On another note, I’m glad to see the blog representing the interests and directions of people involved in CBF- missional partnerships, formation, the MDG’s. There is a lot we can celebrate and I hope people will join in the discussion.
