Stop Working and Play a Little!

Last week, we had a staff retreat around the role of play in sparking creativity and building friendships. We had a fabulous time and I was reminded, once again, of the importance of play.

We had some of the usual retreat content, some lecture, and some comedy. But, we had more than that, we had Godly play!

Could a deadly serious God have created the giraffe or the hippopotamus? Would a deadly serious God give us Bill Cosby or Robin Williams? My guess is, Nope! While God was creating, I hope that God chuckled every now and then!

We were reminded that play is NOT a destination. Play is a state of mind that allows our creative spirit to soar. Play is an opportunity to let God’s creative spirit lead our creative spirit. Play is a happening not an event!

I played “Apples to Apples” with friends last week. I doodled thirty circles into funny faces. And, I played Scrabble…and I’m still wondering why “doc” was not allowed! Stop reading this blog and go play some…then come back and write me about your play!
