My friend, Reid Doster, CBF Coordinator in Louisiana and one of the leaders in our disaster response efforts offers this idea.
“Here is an easy way to involve your congregation in responding to Haiti. Every week, I empty into a bucket enough spare change from my pockets to buy medicine that could be helping one of the sick and injured patients in the James’ clinic in Haiti.
In the weeks ahead, please consider collecting a special “Noisy Offering,” inviting your congregation to drop into pails all loose change collected at home each week. Your youth will enjoy passing around the pails. Your children will enjoy ‘clunking’ change in the pails. Your adults will enjoy watching the gifts grow.
Psalm 100:1 challenges us to “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord,” which I take to mean: “The more racket the better!”
By the way, if your ears prefer a quieter offering, then silently write your check to The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, P.O. Box 101699, Atlanta, GA., 30392, indicating “Haiti Relief 17015″ in the memo line.”
I’m grateful for such a fun response. Please keep Reid and Charles Ray and the disaster response team in your prayers as they coordinate our Haiti efforts.
Send me your ideas!!
