Here is a wonderful reflection from my friend and colleague, Suzanne L. Vinson. Enjoy!

We know of praying ways. We know of the amazing power of prayer and the sweeping movements of the Spirit of God. Sometimes we tend to think of sweeping movements of God’s presence in life changing, transforming ways. When want to see transformation, we can step into a quiet prayerful space right in our own homes. We start with our floors.
As a daily ritual, sweeping becomes a spiritual act. With each stroke of the broom, breathe deeply in the presence of God. Breathe out the prayers of others. With each stroke, transformation takes place. The floors are clean, the dirt pile is collected telling a story of the day of our household. Prayers are uttered in breath, word, and thought. The rhythm of the day is set by inviting God into the daily spaces, the dirty spaces, the every day spaces.
Prayerful acts come more frequently when we integrate aspects of daily living into the practice. Whether washing dishes, driving on the morning commute, sweeping floors, or chopping vegetables, God is present in the every day. Your day, your routine, and your spirit is filled. As you sweep today, remember those who are tossed aside in society. Remember those who are enslaved to others with barely a wage. Remember those on the margins.
Breathe deeply in the presence of God, sweep the dust and dirt, and pray.
