Many of you know that my wife has been in the hospital these past few days.  We’ve been blessed by the connectedness of facebook and twitter.  People from all around the world have sent us blessings and assurances.  We have been overwhelmed and moved to tears several times at the virtual touches and the prayer support.  

Tonight, however, was a “Kingdom” missional moment! 

Gail was really agitated, couldn’t get comfortable, fussy, and just exhausted from trying to reach for healing.  Our tech nurse came in and gave us a Bible verse.  Gail smiled and tried to be patient with her.  The tech saw Gail’s reaction and started singing, “Jesus loves me” in a rich African American gospel jazz arrangement.  Oh my, oh my, the hospital room was transformed into a Sanctuary!

As our tech continued singing, she reached over and held Gail’s hand and sang, “Yes, Jesus loves YOU; yes, Jesus loves YOU…”  Immediately, Gail’s spirit began to quiet down and her agitation began to subside.  I was trying to keep my tears at bay to no avail.  What a powerful moment of grace to Gail and to me!

It occurs to me tonight, the power of touch, the power of music, the power of friendship, and the power of a personal Jesus!  We are surrounded  by a fabulous family, a loving church and Sunday School class, a supportive group of colleagues, countless friends, and prayer warriors each and every one!  And now, with the help of a simple song, with the touch of a caring hand, and small dose of narcotic, my wife sleeps peacefully, knowing the love of Jesus and the power of God!  Thanks be to God!
