Put this great idea in your file for 2011 Christmas/Advent!! (submitted by Becky Lynch, member of Boulevard Baptist Church, Anderson, SC)
Boulevard’s 7th annual Alternative Christmas Fair was December 4 – 5. The occasion brought shoppers from our church family as well as our community to “shop” for gifts at 10 ministry tables including Global Women, Honduras Missions, New York Missions, Wright’s House of Hope, Metanoia, Heifer Project, Family Promise, Meals on Wheels, International Justice Mission and Doctors without Borders. This shopping experience provided opportunities for giving monetary gifts to those in need for items such as vaccines for children, meals for elderly and thermal underwear. An international market provided opportunities to purchase fair trade gifts such as scarves, jewelry, bags, pottery, coffee, chocolate and much more. A highlight of the Fair is fellowship with friends and family while enjoying a cup of hot cider and biscotti. The Fair brought in $22,000 at the ministry tables and $8,000 at the international market.
The Alternative Christmas Fair is a shopping site offering missions education along with opportunities for sharing the love of Christ with others as we also share warmth, meals, health and more. I look forward each year to hosting the ministry table for NYC missions and sharing the needs of the work led by one of CBF’s field personnel Ronnie Adams. Another great blessing is giving to mission causes in honor of the ladies in my Sunday School Class as well as other family and friends.
