Putting our gifts to good use

Fact is, I’m a true believer. I don’t just work for the Fellowship, I really do believe in its mission and, frankly, how important it is for each of us to do our part to help support the global missions enterprise.

Why am I true believer? Because of people like my friend, Tyler Grace.

Tyler Grace and her guitar.

I teach early elementary and pre-school missions classes on alternating months at my church, Parkway Baptist. Tyler Grace is in kindergarten and a member of our class. She often prays the sincerest and sweetest prayers for CBF field personnel. And the other day, our pastor shared with us a story of how she contributed to Parkway’s Offering for Global Missions.

One of Tyler Grace’s Christmas presents this year was a new guitar. She was trying out this new gift at the apparel store her grandfather owns. In a gentle, grandfatherly way, he suggested Tyler Grace practice her new guitar outside the store. He even supplied a cup for her to collect donations from those who appreciated her music.

In two hours time, Tyler Grace had a blister and a cup filled with $12. Rather than keep this well-earned sum, she gave it to Parkway’s missions offering. We haven’t reached our $15,000 goal yet, but we are $12 closer, thanks to Tyler Grace.

I’m glad I get to teach missions. It’s people like Tyler Grace who help remind me that global missions is worth our gifts, financial and otherwise. It helps me to continue to be a true believer in what God is doing through the Fellowship.
