At Sungrak Church in Seoul, South Korea, what a difference 40 years can make. In the late 1960s, Ki Dong Kim started a church with just a handful of people. Now, the congregation has more than 150,000 members. Kim’s son, Sung Hyun Kim is the assistant overseer of the church, helping his father lead one of the largest Baptist congregations in the world.
When CBF Executive Coordinator Daniel Vestal traveled to South Korea last year [read his reflection on his trip here], he met Christian leaders including Sung Hyun Kim, who recognized “a shared zeal of Christian work. We found that we are ready to work together for work that pleases God,” Kim said. In early June, Sung Hyun Kim – along with other Seoul Christian leaders Stephen Song and Sang Hee Choo – traveled to Atlanta to meet with the Fellowship and sign a memorandum of understanding, launching a partnership for ministry that will help share the story of Jesus Christ with the world. “I hope this partnership will be a lasting one,” Kim said.

I have some men who was already trained and now they were actively in the ministry. Most of them are struggling because of so many needs. As I observed here in our country that many Koreans came here and they are helping to build churches and helping ministry needs but only those who are belong to a presbyterian groups and pentecostal groups. I made a research with regards if there are some korean baptist groups that do the same but I heard none. So, I wonder if you as korean Churches there can do the same as what those groups did. So far this time we have several pioneering churches that badly need of help. I would greatly appreciate if you could be our partner in this great work of the Lord that is going on also here in the Philippines. On our conversation with my old friend we came up to a point where he was applauding how Korean guys are a blessing to the SA Church.One thing he mentioned was a program which assists towards the church building project. I then found it an opportunity for me to inquire on behalf of my church and my Bishop about the project.Our church has two pieces of land that have acquired.We have been praying that God help us do fundraising to start building but things did not go as we had planned. Could it be possible that you come to our rescue by assisting where we are running short? We have managed to raise some funds but only about just more than 50% of what we need has been raised for the first building in Langa area.
