General CBF

To CBF Leadership in the Crosshairs of Hurricane Irene

EAST COAST ALERT
Irene is now a Category 3 storm and is predicted to reach a 4.

Instead of guessing where it will hit, here is an outline of what should be done in preparation for assisting those who might be impacted.

Before your power goes out, please pre-print a list CBF churches in your state (and their leaders) that could be in the path. Keep this list in a handy place.

If you are told to evacuate, do so. We need you and your family to stay safe and well.

As soon as possible after impact, began checking on your churches, first determining that the pastor and family are safe.

Next, inquire if any church members need assistance?

Once you have assessed the needs of your immediate CBF family, it will be time to consider how your church might help members of the community-at-large.

Contact your CBF state Coordinator to advise of your church’s condition, specific needs and any opportunities you observe for CBF being of service to your community.

Please remember that CBF is not considered to be a “First Responder.” We stand down from a disaster area until the authorities issue an “All Clear.” While normally not the first faith-based group to arrive, we are often the last one to leave.

Any and all responders representing CBF in case of a disaster must acquire special, low-cost supplemental insurance before departing home. Charles Ray, CBF National Disaster Response Coordinator will assist you in this. Charles may be reached at 501-223-8586 or 501-680-2722, or at cray@cbfar.org .

You may also call me, Reid Doster, Associate National Coordinator for CBF Disaster Response, at (985) 778-6049.

Again, be ready and stay safe.
