As Hurricane Irene makes landfall this weekend on the East Coast, the Fellowship is preparing to respond. Although not a disaster relief organization, the Fellowship responds when major disasters strike through its own resources or partners. The Fellowship’s model is not as rescue or first response but as a long-term presence to help communities recover and rebuild.

After the storm, the Fellowship will assess where it can best respond. Ministry will not begin until first responders have completed their work and have granted access to the damaged areas.

The storm has already hit the Bahamas, where Florida CBF partners with several local churches. Pastors there have reported severe damage to both homes and churches. One partner church has been destroyed. While a long-term response is being developed, Florida CBF will be sending food and water soon.
