Wendell Griffen, spoke at the chapel service at McAfee School of Theology, Atlanta. It was “CBF Day” at McAfee. I stopped what I was doing in my office and walked over to the chapel building to hear what he had to say. I was not disappointed.
Wendell used Mt. 22:15—22 as his text (Pharisees ask Jesus if it was right to pay taxes to Caesar.)

Here are some points made by Wendell.
The Pharisees presented a “loaded question to Jesus.” This is akin to asking someone “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?”
Allegiance, for the Christian, belongs to God above all government , party, or system and all allegiance comes with a price.
Jesus said to give Caesar what’s his and to give God what is His. Paying taxes is part of caring for the less fortunate, the homeless, the uneducated and the stranger.
The Christian’s duty is to hold government and politicians accountable for how the people in need are doing along the Jericho road.
I know I’m meddling now, but Jesus spoke to us about power. We need to pay attention to what he said!
Respect and honor your political leaders but don’t worship them. We need to hold them accountable for how the less fortunate are treated.
