Getting Involved in Virginia!

Mary Beth Foust, Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond student, moved to Virginia almost 2 years ago. Perhaps her story can help to encourage you if you are looking to find ways to plug into CBF life, even in new places. Mary Beth shares her story below as a part of a new series on CBF Young Baptists.

I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into when my husband Caleb and I moved to Richmond to begin Seminary. We knew that we were taking a risk moving up to a strange city by ourselves and we also knew that we were embarking on a journey that would surely challenge us and change our lives.

I grew up in and around CBF. I traveled and learned about my calling through my rich experiences with Student.Go and then worked in the Student.Go office with Amy Derrick for two years while I was in college. Needless to say, I couldn’t imagine my life without CBF. So, when I moved to Virginia, I was encouraged to contact Rob Fox at CBFVA and see if there was any way that we could connect. Who knew that two years later I would still be working a few hours here and there in the CBFVA office?

I have been able to participate in the brainstorming sessions, attend the general assemblies, take part in Sunday School workshops and haul and load boxes for our Mission Box project. There are weekend retreats for Youth, including a retreat in the fall and Mission Madness in the spring and there are great mission projects to support. I am grateful for the opportunity to stay connected with CBF through CBFVA and I am amazed at the many ways there are to get involved.
