Disaster Response / General CBF

Volunteers needed in Louisiana after hurricane

The following post is from Reid Doster, coordinator of CBF Louisiana. If you are interested in serving in Louisiana, please email reid.cbflouisiana@gmail.com.

Volunteer responders and cash donations are needed now to support CBF disaster relief efforts in LaPlace, La., 28 miles west of New Orleans.

You will enjoy safe, clean, air conditioned lodging, showers and meals, with separate accommodations for men and women, and meaningful fellowship with others who desire to be the presence of Christ in this hurting world.

We need responders now, those with NO skills, SOME skills, or MANY skills.  Basic “mud out” tools will be provided, but any team member who possesses specialty skills, e.g. plumbing or electrical, should bring his or her own specialty tools.  Local government authorities are working closely with us and, at least for the time being, apparently are relaxing their normal permitting requirements so we can help people return to normal as quickly as possible.  Thus, the window of opportunity is now, and we ask that you respond accordingly.

For only $10 per day cost to you, you will be provided three healthy and delicious meals.  Lunch will be served on the worksite.

Your team will be assigned a Project Manager, who will distribute to you specific work orders and will supervise progress.  All families you help will have been screened through a formal case management system that prioritizes and validates needs and reduces the chance of fraud.

All responders who work under the CBF umbrella are required to purchase the inexpensive supplemental health insurance policy for the days you will be on the road and in the field.  The cost is only 75 cents per person per day and is worth every penny.  Each team member must purchase this coverage before leaving home, and the team leader can sign up everyone on-line at: http://www.aaintl.com/ins_usavolmiss.cfm. You will be asked to provide proof of supplemental health insurance coverage before leaving home.  Upon arrival, you will also be asked to sign a liability waiver and to participate in a 45 minute safety briefing.
