The Tennessee CBF Coordinating Council in its August 26-27 planning retreat unanimously and enthusiastically elected Rick Bennett to serve as the organization’s next Field Coordinator. Bennett comes to this role most recently from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Elkin, N.C., where he has served since 2012.
Stephen Cook, chair of the Field Coordinator Search Committee, commented that, “Rick brings a blend of experiences that range from local, congregationally-based ministry roles to service with CBF Global. His pastoral warmth, thoughtful and spiritually sensitive style, and his capacity to connect with others in meaningful ways are among some of the many qualities we see as being the right match for our opportunities here.”
Bennett’s previous ministry experience includes serving as Director of Missional Congregations with CBF Global (2004-2012), as well as Minister of Education, Associate Pastor, and Pastoral Education at congregations in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. During his tenure at CBF in Atlanta, Bennett was the lead developer in A [Baptist] Conference on Sexuality and Covenant, as well as a team leader in the conception and development of Dawnings, a source of spiritual renewal in the lives of congregations.
A graduate of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (M.Div., D.Min.) and Campbell University, Bennett is married to Rebecca and father to Tyler (15) and Ethan (12). He will begin his service as TCBF Field Coordinator on October 1.
