A Prayer and Litany for the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Lord God, Creator and Sustainer of our earth, Hear our cry.

Part of your world has been devastated. Our hearts are overwhelmed and fainting as we watch those seeking higher ground and shelter.

For those who have lost loved ones, bring comfort as only you Lord God are able.
For those who have lost property and possessions, bring restoration.
For the thousands who have lost sleep and worked tirelessly to rescue, restore order, bring supplies, keep utilities safe and running, shelter the homeless and organize relief, bring deep rest and rejuvenation.
For those who are even now preparing to come alongside your children who suffered during the storm, bring wisdom, strength, endurance and resources that they may stay on the task until restoration is complete.

From the end of the earth will we cry to you with our hearts overwhelmed. Lead us to the rock that is higher than we. You, God, are our shelter and refuge, our strong tower. Let us all, those of us who experienced Harvey and those of us who watched it unfold, find refuge and trust in the shelter of your wings. Amen.

God, for you alone our souls wait in silence.
Lead us to the Rock that is higher than we.

God you are our Rock, our Salvation, Our Defense, Our Fortress.
Lead us to the Rock that is higher than we.

God you are our hope and our expectation.
Lead us to the Rock that is higher than we.

God you are our Rock of unyielding strength.
Lead us to the Rock that is higher than we.

Help us God, trust in, lean on, rely on and have confidence in you at all times as we your people pour out our hearts before you, our Rock, our Fortress, our High Tower.
Lead us to the Rock that is higher than we.
